→ Welcome message from the Co-chairs

The tenth of the ISUILS series, held at Hotel auf der Wartburg, Eisenach, Germany, during October 16 – 20, 2011, opened with a tribute to the Honorary Chair of the symposium, Prof. Gérard Mourou (LOA, ENSTA, France).  This year, we had ten sessions covering the wide areas of rapidly growing interdisciplinary research fields of ultrafast intense laser science and enjoyed the presentations made by the invited speakers and discussion leaders as well as the stimulating discussions that followed the presentations.

We had a session of short presentations for poster papers, a new attempt this year, in which a maximum of three minutes were given to each poster presenters to present their poster papers in power-point slides. It was most heartening to note the enthusiastic participation of a large number of younger colleagues, including students.

In the Sponsors’ Sessions, we had presentations by seven sponsor companies, Amplitude Technologies, Coherent, Femtolasers, Thales Optronique, Fastlite, Horiba Jobin Yvon, and Japan Laser Corporation on their recent R&D.

We believe the attendees enjoyed both the scientific program as well as the historic atmosphere of Wartburg in which the meeting was held.  On behalf of the international organizing committee, we thank all the invited participants, all attendees, and all the sponsor companies and organizations for having made the symposium successful and enjoyable.
